one single mother. one spririted preschooler. oy — what a life.
Today while I was napping with Sami, I had the strangest dream. He had wandered near a large body of water and while I didn’t see this directly, I knew that he had fallen in. I jumped in after him, but could not immediately find him. Weirdly enough, I did not panic. Instead, I decided that I should just listen for the sound of his breathing (OK, it doesn’t make sense, but hey, it was a dream). I did hear him breathing under the water, dived into where the bubbling sound was coming from, and easily pulled him out. He was completely fine.
I took this dream as a sign not to panic. Ever. Even when it feels like he is drowning, and I am drowning, when all seems submerged in a dark and murky place, all I need to do is listen for the breath, and follow it to safety.
Welcome to this blog - my chronicle of the illuminating, character-building path of single parenthood. I'm making this up as I go along. My life is my practice, and my five year-old son is my greatest teacher.
