Thanks for your comments, all.

Karen - yes. As always you help me to see when I am flipping one thing into another "good" into "bad" or "enemy" into "friend." Yes, it all just is, beyond our labels and the spins we put on everything.

Won - thank you so much for sharing your experience. Your daughter sounds very wise. Sometimes in the moment, the best thing to do is pursue a lovely distraction. Ain't nothin' wrong with that, in my book :)

Staying in the moment....

a seemingly easy thing.

At least on paper.

When I told my then eleven year old daughter that her cancer had returned in her brain, I sobbed and explained that while we were on our way out to a party...did she really want to go? Could we just stay home?

We both knew the ramifications of the cancer having returned.

She looked at me and said:

"Momma, if we stay home, we'll just sit and cry. Now, come on! Let's go to the party and have a little fun."

Here's to staying in the moment...it's all we have.

To make it even easier, you don't even have to make friends with what is. Don't make anything with it. Don't make anger. Don't make equanimity. Just be. The friendship, like all true friendships, arises by itself with proximity.
