What a touching story - so much pain and so much courage. It's fortunate that some experiences in life we never have to repeat. Here's to a year that's now in your rear view mirror and quickly fading from sight!

Thanks guys - I so appreciate the kind words. Won, thanks for visiting MD.

T, I'm going to check out your blog post right now :)

Dad's - yes, I have read that book and loved it! When I first started having back problems I studied a lot about the chakras and it was a wonderful initiation into mind-body connections and energy medicine. Unfortunately I had to go the surgical route but if I had been able to do more self-care I might have been able to avoid it.

Have you read Anatomy of the Spirit, by Carolyn Myss? She talks about how mental/emotional issues create blockages in the chakras, manifesting in physical ailments. Her view of the back is the same as yours: Trust, Care of oneself and others, Responsibility for making decisions, etc. You're right - no wonder your back gave out! Check out her book, it's great.

The part that resonated with me was where you said you did it for you child.

As parents, we can move mountains and do other such insurmountable tasks in the name of the love that is for our child.

I don't necessarily think we'd do it for ourselves; doing it for them is never a question.

I know because I have done some unfathomable things for my remaining child. Had it just been me, I would have curled up in a fetal position and joined my daughter on the other side.

That one part...

"<i>Healing comes when you are willing to face the suffering head on and see what wisdom, what potential for awakening, lies within it. Otherwise you just run and run and run and never get any closer to home.</i>"

I just blogged about the same thing.

I love the quote. And I love that you're learning and healing. It is a beautiful thing, isn't it?
